To quote Alan Jackson: it sounds simple; that's what you're thinking.
I mean, what is it really? It's just a text. But it is so much more. It is caring and considerate. It is thoughtful and respectful. It is loving and generous. It is staying awake even when you're tired to know that person is safe. It is a gesture of love and concern for someone's well-being.
Well-being. Being well. I like that phrase. I find it inspiring and challenging to take on the task of continually upping my level of being in this life.
Personally, I have found true give and take in relationships is rare. Some people are just take take take all of the time. A relationship like that (be it with family or friends or a love interest) is exhausting emotionally. You're constantly trying to give more, hoping the other person will acknowledge it somehow and step up their game. But it is just that-a game. I will take goodness over games every single day of the week.
Text me when you get home...thank you.
