I love the story of J.K. Rowling because like many successful people, most do not know the struggles of the life before that success unless they dig a little. We all have stories. We all have pasts. They have made us who we are.
As much as sometimes I'd like a giant eraser in my brain, I know that really that wouldn't solve anything apart from saving me from some emotional pain as I process reactions, hurt etc. even now.
Where was my rock bottom? Was it just when I had left? I don't think so. I think for me it was when I finally realized it was done. When I knew I wasn't going back. When I knew that our marriage was over. When I knew I was going to be a single mom. When I knew all the bills were my responsibility. When I knew I wouldn't see my dog again and that he was dying without me there. When I felt so alone when the baby went to sleep. I hit bottom and then started clawing my way back up. I'm not sure where exactly I am now, but I know I'm further than I started and doing better than I was just yesterday. Rebuilding life can feel daunting and overwhelming, but it's worth all the work to look back and survey how far I've come. That much I know!
